Design Business Card

In this class, we started making business card for our final show.

 we put our website background image on a front page with our logo.
it is clear way our theme and title.

on the back side, we will put our image of each work.
I think the image of each work can represent a characteristic of an artist.

however, each piece of work has different size, so we had to consider which size of the image fit to our business card.

This version was first. however, I realised some images were too vertical so that I tried another type of layout.

I think the round shape could outline to fit our images.
aAfter discussing with our group, the final information page should second version.

from the feed back from zoe, we tried to find other poster style.
previous poster was close to science exhibition, not link to art exhibition.
Therefore, we decided putting some kind of art effects such as watercolour pattern and strong brush stroke.
in week 6 lesson, some classmates created water colour patterns inspired by cosmic.
the below pictures show what we made using water colour.

to combine traditional effects on digital poster, I used Photoshop.
I did some practice to make it.

than, I discussed with poster group member and Nathan.
I developed it to make it look better. I put building shapes for representing architecture students.
I will add another symbols of our progressions.

Also we tried another poster design inspired by artist album cover that Nathan showed to me.
This one looks very simple and effective to present. I will put more contents about our progression route. The final poster outcome will be this one.

Poster Design

in the last class, poster team created our final poster draft.
as a software to create poster, we used 'canva'.

in this time, I tried to find other effect on our poster to make it better.
I found that kind of image using clipping mask tool of Photoshop.
I will try to make one of my classmate portrait to use merge cosmic image.

Tom showed this star wars poster by olly moss. this poster shows clear tag line in the bottom of the figures. using simple colour background makes the main character focused.

I tried to make poster that kind of technique used. it was just practice one. I did choose main colour for poster background yet. However, the purple colour could fit into cosmic concept.

In this class, we started to think about our website wireframe.
Since last week, we talked about website research and layout of homepage.
At that time, we have three different type of ideas, we choose yet.
we got time to sketch individual wireframe idea.

I made two home page. The first one shows big title on the centre of cosmos concept background.
That would show our theme clearly. Then, when you click somewhere or title, it moves to the second homepage. The second one shows 6 constellations as representing our progression route by using a type of timeline bar.
when you move the mouse on each constellation, it will show each group members.
Therefore, you can link to each member's gallery page.

This page shows gallery page.
on the top, there are navigation bar and logo. the colour of background will be white.
It can scroll down to look detail of the individual artwork.

At the starting point, these two type of poster came in my mind.

Sujin and I tried to find images to fit the theme of our final show.
we chose temporary fonts for our website.
Also, we made various colour range within a range of Black, Gold and White.
because this concept has a different type of dark colours.
the last two images in the right corner show format of homepages that I imagine.
the first homepage should grab attention and get clear concept point. I think white clear tagline or title will be in the centre of page and cosmos image will be in the background.

After listening kate's research about website effects, It could create animation by covering 3 layers on the screen.

In this class, we discussed many ideas about the homepage.
the first idea was making constellations of each progression route and those 6 constellations will be big one constellation.
Kate designed big constellation as a shape of number 6.
when the mouse reaches each shape of a star, then it shows a constellation of progression route.
the second idea was putting one constellation by using 14 stars as our number of group members.
the last idea was arranging a format of the timeline to lead to individuals gallery page.

each idea was good, but to fit our concept and get clear homepage,
the first idea was nearly close to out final show concept, but maybe require high technical quality of animated movement of a mouse. therefore, It would be a challenge for us.
I think we can develop the last idea,
instead of these planets, we can put the constellation of each progression route to link to the gallery page. when the mouse moves to each constellation, the name and progression route come out and the image would be little bigger.

Poster Design.

In our final show, I started to take a part of poster design team.
Angel, Jason, Agustina are poster team members with me.
website design team and poster team should work and discuss many things together.

At the beginning, I started looking some examples of other exhibitions.

1. Feature

In my opinion, the poster must be focused on giving information exactly.
The aim of making a poster for an exhibition is a promotion.
To promote the final show, I need to think about which part should be focused the most.
The first thing that we should concern is the typography. Most exhibition posters that I uploaded have a catchy big title.
Also, they usually used an interesting image for the poster to catch people's attention.
The information we have to put are about who, what, when and where.

2. concept

In group final show, our theme of the exhibition is cosmic. we did not choose exact title yet.
Most of this theme poster used a dark background.
I think if we used cosmic concept for our poster, some fantasy image could be used.

Last class, our group had a time for discussing the main theme.
My idea was 'invisible open'. I inspired by a secret message of a crime scene.

In the gallery, we put commentary about an artist and their work such as an initial idea, what kind of method did they use for creating a final piece on the final artwork as a clue.

As can be seen that the mood is going to be funky and feel free.
so my idea of web gallery was two type of gallery.
normal version shows well displayed final artworks on the white background.
But, when the switch off, the gallery will totally be changed the mood.
Therefore, the gallery could be a big artwork of our group.

After discussing my idea, I found that two type of gallery might be quite a challenge to us so that it can be used as a special effect.


Khalid suggested a good example of website layout. This website uses similar colour palette( white, black and gold) as our colour theme.

That was a really good example of website design. it was simple, clear and professional.
However, a navigating category was little hard especially area of the champions, because it was little confused when I look again some characters that I passed.

gathering international students together makes the tiny world of art and design.

Main Theme 2:  infinity & beyond
This theme is going to be about challenge ourselves. we all are explorers. we could be faced various problems and fails. It is that kind of concept.

we voted for choosing one theme, but the result was equal. therefore, After making the mood board, we will decide the theme again.

In the class, we learned about basic typography: Serif, San Serif and script.
I looked at Serif and Sans Serif for choosing a font to use in our online gallery and poster.

I found this infographic that clearly shows the difference between Serif and Sans Serif. the crew at Urbanfonts has produced this infographic to help understand well. Thanks to this clear infographic, I learned each benefit of typography lots of differences.

According to the infographic, Serif fonts are a readable type of font so that usually used in printed works such as newspaper and books. On the other hand, Sans Serif fonts are better on the web. Our final show will be open on the website, so I thought Sans Serif fonts could be suitable than Serif fonts. In addition, Sans Serif is better at small sizes because of their simple forms. therefore, for artist statement and describing our artwork, Sans Serif can be more useful than Serif.

I looked exhibition posters for examples. most of the poster use Sans Serif fonts. 

but, it could depend on the theme. In a case of a poster, some kinds of theme are matched with Serif or Script fonts. After choosing the theme, the font would be chosen.

This is first Instruction series 'Why Not'.
I made a board for combining final works together.
this instruction will be shown happening when the boy ignore the signs.
I put fantasy factors for making it fun.

Instruction version 2.

The second 'Why Not' series is about a fun from breaking little rules.
therefore, In this instruction, it shows how to break light rules for fun.
it can be silly, but I think silly happening makes our life more interesting.
